Born into an artistic family in Ghana, Maputo Mensah began studying traditional dance and drum and the age of five. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Akrowa Dance Ensemble of Ghana, and eventually the Royal Ga Troupe. Maputo currently lives in Colorado where he teaches and performs folkloric, religious, social, and artistic dancing, drumming and singing. He is the Artistic Director, choreographer, and mater dancer of the Logo Ligi performance troupe based in Boulder, and is an instructor at the University of Colorado, Naropa University, and at Bantaba World Dance and Music. Maputo teaches and performs extensively throughout the United States and Africa.
Mawuenyega Mensah began drumming at the age of five and by age ten joined the West African Folkloric Troupe and later became the master drummer of the Akrowa Dance Ensemble, in Ghana. Additionally, he was a teacher and master drummer with the Academy of African Music and Arts and the master drummer of Adjido Pan-African Dance Ensemble. Mawuenyega is the musical director and master drummer of the Logo Ligi performance troupe and teaches at Bantaba World Dance and Music, in Boulder Colorado. He has recently taught and performed in festivals throughout Western Europe and in the United Kingdom.
